Since the early 2000s, we have invested over US$320 million in advanced technologies to meet and exceed local and international standards for land, air, and water.
Launched in 2005, the Green School Awards encourage the next generation to create innovative environmental solutions for their schools and communities.
Introduced in 2017, our Waste Segregation and Recycling Program reduces office waste sent to landfill each day. This initiative lowers greenhouse gas emissions, conserves resources, and reduces costs. An Energy Conservation Task Force was also created to promote saving water and energy, with awareness efforts extending from employees to their families and communities.
The BMP is designed to exceed environmental regulations, supported by more than 50 environmental and social studies. Despite higher refinery throughput, emissions and wastewater discharge have significantly decreased. The program also includes soil rehabilitation, mangrove plantation, and measures to limit noise during construction and operations. The project will rehabilitate the soil and improve its quality, support biodiversity through further plantation of mangroves (a program that originally started in 2018) and ensure limited noise impact during both construction and operation phases.
Bapco Refining organizes regular beach cleanups to protect Bahrain’s marine ecosystem. These efforts remove harmful waste, prevent the formation of microplastics, and improve water quality – helping preserve biodiversity and supporting community well-being.
Each year, Bapco Refining submits its Communication on Progress to the UN Global Compact, reporting on human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption practices. This reinforces our commitment to sustainable business, builds stakeholder trust, and contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
