May 5, 2025: Following an earlier statement regarding an incident at Bapco Refining on May 2, 2025, Bapco Energies confirmed that Mr. Hossam Ahmed Abouelkher, a Bahraini national, who was critically injured during the incident has passed away while receiving medical treatment.
The Company stated that the incident, which occurred at a unit within the Bapco Refining complex and involved process safety equipment, had initially resulted in two fatalities and one injury. This brings the total number of fatalities to three employees.
Bapco Energies extended its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased employees and confirmed that full support continues to be provided to all those affected.
The Company reaffirmed that the incident was swiftly contained, operations remain stable, and an independent investigation is underway to determine the root cause.
May 3, 2025: In line with directives issued by the Boards of Directors of Bapco Energies and Bapco Refining, an independent investigation consultant has been formally appointed to lead the investigation into the incident that occurred on Friday 2 May 2025, at the Bapco Refining complex. The incident, which involved process safety equipment, resulted in two fatalities and one critical injury.
To support the independent investigation, an internal Investigation Support Committee has been established to ensure the smooth and transparent facilitation of the investigation.
The Committee will be responsible for enabling full access to all relevant information and materials, coordinating with concerned authorities, and ensuring timely communication with all relevant stakeholders. It will include representation from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Oil and Environment, Civil Defense, Bapco Energies, Bapco Refining, along with experts in safety and other technical disciplines. Following the completion of the investigation, the final report issued by the independent investigation will be shared with all appropriate parties.
May 2, 2025: We regret to inform you that a serious incident occurred today at Bapco Refining. Tragically, two of our employees passed away as a result of the incident, and a third remains in critical condition.
The Emergency Response Teams, alongside Civil Defense and the Ministry of Interior, responded immediately, ensuring full control of the situation. The incident site has been secured and the refinery is running in stable operations. All the necessary safety measures are in place with the highest priority given to the safety of employees, contractors, and the environment.
