Bapco Energies – the integrated energy company leading the energy transition in the Kingdom of Bahrain – held a ceremony for its summer training program for university students, “Empower”, recognizing 303 trainees across its subsidiaries. “Empower” enables undergraduates to experience the real work environment at Bapco Energies and its subsidiaries including Bapco Refining, Bapco Upstream, Bapco Gas, Bapco Tazweed, Bapco Air Fueling, Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Company (ASRY) and Gulf Petrochemicals Industries Company (GPIC).
The program focuses on equipping a new generation of workers with the necessary knowledge to not only participate, but lead through innovation in the energy industry. Participants are assigned to different functions within each company in line with their chosen university major while serving to complete their graduation requirements.
Mark Thomas, Group Chief Executive Officer of Bapco Energies, highlighted the Company’s role in training Bahraini youth across its subsidiaries to effectively and fully involve graduates in all aspects of the energy industry. This comes in line with the directives of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bapco Energies, to ensure the development of scientific, practical and cognitive capabilities among young Bahrainis.
Commenting on the program, Mark Thomas said: “Bapco Energies aims to inspire the next generation of youth in the Kingdom. As one of the most important assets to the Kingdom, students play an integral role in shaping the future of the industry, and our goal is to provide them with opportunities to test and ultimately enhance their skills. Empower will help build the business and technical skills of our youth, enabling them to become future industry leaders.”
